Long Ranger

The big price. Each way.

One each-way bet every morning at 7am, at 4/1 to 20/1, in handicaps with eight or nine runners. These are the races where three places are paid and each-way terms work hardest for you.

Every tip goes through the same six rules, every morning. If nothing passes, there's no bet.

Why 8-runner handicaps

Three places paid. Eight to beat.

Each-way betting has a sweet spot, and most punters never find it.

Once a race has eight runners, bookmakers pay three places. In an eight-runner race that means three horses in eight are placed, more than one in three, at a fifth of the odds. Add more runners and it gets harder. Take one away and only two places are paid.

Handicaps make it better again. Every horse is weighted to give it a chance, so the races are tight and big prices hit the frame far more often than in races dominated by one star.

Long Ranger lives in that sweet spot. It's one horse a day at a real price, with the place half there to keep you in the game when it runs well and just gets beaten.

The method

Every morning the day's handicaps go through the same set of rules. A horse only becomes the Long Ranger if it passes every one. If nothing passes, there's no bet.

UK handicaps onlyBritish handicap races off between 2pm and 5pm, where the markets are strong and the weights keep the race tight.
Eight or nine runnersThe each-way sweet spot: three places paid, with as few horses as possible to beat for one of them.
An open raceWe skip races where the favourite is shorter than 6/4. A race with no strong favourite is one where a big price can run into a place.
A real priceWe look at horses from third to seventh in the betting, priced between 4/1 and 20/1.
Proven in handicapsThe horse must have run at least four times, so its handicap mark and form are known, not guessed.
Value or nothingThe bookmaker price is checked against the betting exchange. We only take a horse whose price is bigger than its real chance.

What lands at 7am

Example
DUSTY HORIZON
15:20 · Haydock · 2m4f Hcap Hrd · 8 ran
👉 Each-way bet: 5 points in total on Dusty Horizon, 2.5 to win and 2.5 to place, at 12/1 (13.00) with Betfred or bigger. The place half pays if it finishes in the first 3 at 1/5 the odds. Check your bookmaker's each-way terms.
Example layout only — the horse is made up.

Each way, explained

An each-way bet is two bets of equal size: one on the horse to win, one on it to finish in the places. Long Ranger’s 5 points is the total: 2.5 on the win and 2.5 on the place. In an 8 or 9 runner handicap the first three home are placed, paid at one fifth of the odds.

Example at 10/1Result
Horse wins (win part +25, place part +5)+30 points
Finishes 2nd or 3rd (win part −2.5, place part +5)+2.5 points
Finishes 4th or worse−5 points

Bookmakers set their own each-way terms, so check them before you bet.

Straight answers

What time do the tips arrive?
Every morning at about 7am, by email and on your private Telegram channel. That gives you the whole morning to get on before the prices move.

What is a point?
A point is your own unit of stake. Many members make one point 1% of the money they set aside for betting, so a 100-point bank. If your point is £2, a 5-point bet is £10.

What if the price has shortened?
Take the best price you can find. We always show the price and where it was available at 7am. Early prices are usually the best of the day.

What happens on days with no bet?
If nothing passes every rule, we send a no-bet message instead. A day without a bet is better than a bet you shouldn't have had.

Are the results published?
Yes. Every tip is recorded and settled at the advised price, winners and losers, on our results page from day one.

Can I cancel?
Yes, any time, in your account or in PayPal. Nothing more is taken and your tips carry on until the end of the time you've paid for.

Do I need Telegram?
No. Every tip comes by email as well. Telegram is a back-up so a tip never gets stuck in a spam folder.

Why each way and not win only?
At 4/1 to 20/1 even good bets lose more often than they win. The place half pays when the horse runs well and just gets beaten, which smooths the bumps and keeps your bank going between the big days.

Straight Shooter is the partner to Long Ranger: one win bet a day from small fields of four to seven runners. It's a different race and a different horse.
