Premier League: City go three from three
Manchester City stayed perfect at the top of the table after edging out newly-promoted Coventry City 1-0 at the Etihad. Erling Haaland headed home a Semenyo cross for his third goal of the season, though Enzo Maresca's side were made to work for it, with Gianluigi Donnarumma needed to deny both Loum Tchaouna and Ellis Simms an equaliser.
Elsewhere it was a frantic afternoon on Tyneside as Newcastle United came from behind to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth, who dominated the first half before Eddie Howe's men rallied after the break. Four days on from Tuesday's transfer deadline, the fallout is still being felt. Manchester City confirmed the deadline-day capture of Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye and struck a joint Premier League record fee to sign Enzo Fernández from Chelsea, while Jack Grealish returned to Everton on a season-long loan from City. Chelsea, meanwhile, are still counting the cost of a deadline-day collapse: a deal for Monaco's Lamine Camara fell through late, Monaco's move for Folarin Balogun to Everton also unravelled, and Atlético Madrid's Julián Álvarez missed out on a dream move to Barcelona after the Catalans turned instead to Arsenal's Gabriel Jesus.
