Betfan Daily Sports Briefing — Monday, 7 September 2026

Published · By Betfan Editorial

Yesterday's results & headlines

A pulsating London derby lit up the weekend as Arsenal edged Chelsea 2-1 at the Emirates in Matchweek 3. Morgan Rogers stunned the hosts with a volleyed opener after just 77 seconds, only for Kai Havertz to level against his former club before half-time and tee up Martin Ødegaard's 50th-minute winner with a clever dummy that opened the door for the Arsenal captain to rifle home.

Across Merseyside there was late drama too, as Everton and Manchester United shared the points in a wild 2-2 draw at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead shortly after the restart before Tyrique George levelled for the Toffees, and it looked as though Benjamin Šeško's 88th-minute strike had won it for the visitors — until debutant Ainsley Maitland-Niles curled in a stunning 25-yard equaliser deep into stoppage time to complete a dream first appearance for his new club.

On the international front, England made it four wins from four in their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win over Andorra at Villa Park. Marc Guerrero García turned Noni Madueke's cross into his own net just after the half-hour, and Declan Rice headed home a pinpoint Reece James delivery in the 67th minute to seal a routine, if unconvincing, victory for Thomas Tuchel's side.

Today's fixtures & previews

Football

With the top flight now pausing for the international break, the standout domestic action falls to Sky Bet League One, where Bromley host AFC Wimbledon at Hayes Lane. Kick-off is at BST, with the match live on Sky Sports Football as both sides look to build early-season momentum.

Horse racing

It is a four-meeting card for British racing fans today. Windsor stages seven Flat races between and on good, good-to-firm in places going. Over jumps, Newton Abbot runs seven races from to , headlined by the Sun Racing Summer Jumps Championship Maiden Hurdle, while Perth hosts six races between and . Under the Tapeta floodlights, Wolverhampton rounds off the day with eight all-weather races from through to .

Punters have plenty to work with across the jumping and Flat cards, with several well-fancied types dropping in class or switching codes in search of new opportunities — full analysis in the tips section below.

Betting tips & odds analysis

1. Explode to win the Sun Racing Summer Jumps Championship Maiden Hurdle, Newton Abbot — 6/4 (bet365)

Selection: Explode (Newton Abbot, 6/4 with bet365). Reasoning: A dual Flat winner this summer for trainer Faye Bramley, Explode switches to hurdles with Harry Cobden booked to ride — a strong positive given the jockey's excellent record over obstacles. The sharp Newton Abbot track should suit a horse whose form reads as fast-improving.

2. Ecclefechan each-way in the 1m handicap, Windsor — 15/8 (bet365)

Selection: Ecclefechan (Windsor, 15/8 with bet365). Reasoning: The step up to a mile has clearly suited this three-year-old over his last two starts, and connections look happy to let him take his chance again against a rise in grade. Today's NAP for the meeting on current form.

3. On Message each-way, Windsor — 9/1 (bet365)

Selection: On Message (Windsor, 9/1 with bet365). Reasoning: Raaheeb heads the betting at a skinny 4/5 in this race, leaving little each-way value at the top of the market. On Message is prominent in the forecast at 9/1 and looks the most interesting alternative price-wise if the favourite fails to deliver.

4. Tallahassie Lassie each-way, Perth — 10/1 (bet365)

Selection: Tallahassie Lassie (Perth, 10/1 with bet365). Reasoning: An eye-catching newcomer stepping into her racecourse debut for a respected yard, Tallahassie Lassie has been talked up in market moves ahead of the off — worth an each-way interest at a double-figure price.

5. Draw, Bromley v AFC Wimbledon — 11/5 (bet365)

Selection: Draw (Bromley v AFC Wimbledon, 11/5 with bet365). Reasoning: Bromley (11/8) and AFC Wimbledon (19/10) are separated by little in the betting, suggesting a tight, competitive League One clash at Hayes Lane. With both early-season sides still finding their feet, the draw price offers fair value.

Player news & injury updates

Joe Rodon sidelined for two months

Leeds United have been dealt a blow after Joe Rodon was forced off inside 34 minutes of the weekend's game against Brentford with a hamstring injury. Manager Daniel Farke confirmed the on-loan Spurs defender faces eight to ten weeks on the sidelines, a significant absence as Leeds bed into the top flight.

Saliba's back trouble drags on

William Saliba continues to be troubled by a back problem that Arsenal expect will keep him out for a while yet, a concern for Mikel Arteta with a busy autumn run of fixtures approaching either side of the international break.

Liverpool's treatment room

At Anfield, there is more encouraging news: Joe Gomez is expected to resume full training shortly, while Federico Chiesa is targeting a return to training later this month. Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitike remain longer-term absentees, with no firm date yet set for either's comeback.

Deadline day dust settles

The summer transfer window officially shut at 11pm BST on 1 September, and clubs are now taking stock of their business as squads head off on international duty. Expect the usual round of "unfinished business" stories to build through the autumn ahead of the January window reopening on 1 January 2027.

A debut to remember

Everton's Ainsley Maitland-Niles could scarcely have dreamed of a better first appearance for his new club, capping his debut with a stoppage-time equaliser against Manchester United that will live long in the memory of the Hill Dickinson Stadium crowd.
