Betfan Daily Sports Briefing — Sunday, 13 September 2026

Published · By Betfan Editorial

Yesterday's results & headlines

Arsenal made it a winning start to the weekend's Premier League action with a 2-0 victory at Sunderland, David Raya saving a penalty from Enzo Le Fée before Bukayo Saka converted a late spot-kick of his own and substitute Bruno Guimarães added a second. It kept the Gunners firmly in the title picture after four rounds of fixtures.

There was late drama at Stamford Bridge as Hull City came from behind to draw 2-2 with Chelsea, the promoted side once again proving hard to beat away from home and remaining unbeaten in the league. Crystal Palace were beaten 3-2 by Ipswich Town, while Bournemouth and Brentford shared four goals in a 2-2 draw. At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs and Everton played out a goalless draw — the first time Ange Postecoglou's successors have failed to score in any of their opening four league games, while the Toffees remain unbeaten this season.

Racing round-up

Doncaster's St Leger Festival rolled into its final day of build-up on Saturday, with trainers and jockeys firming up plans for Sunday's Group 3 finale. Betting tips & odds analysis

18+ | Bet responsibly | BeGambleAware.org | Tips are opinion, not guaranteed. Only stake what you can afford to lose. Odds quoted at time of writing and subject to change.

1. Both teams to score – Yes @ 4/9 (bet365)

Selection: Both teams to score in Manchester United v Manchester City. Reasoning: United have conceded in every league game so far this season while looking dangerous going forward, and City's only setback of the campaign came in a high-scoring Community Shield defeat. Given the attacking talent on both sides and United's defensive frailty, goals at both ends look the most likely derby script — though the short price means this is one for combining into a bigger bet rather than a standalone stake.

2. Erling Haaland to score anytime @ 23/20 (Ladbrokes/Coral)

Selection: Haaland anytime goalscorer in the Manchester derby. Reasoning: Haaland has been in relentless early-season form for City and comes into the derby full of confidence against a United defence that has been breached in every match this term. At odds-against, this looks a fair reflection of a striker who rarely goes missing in the biggest fixtures.

3. Brighton & Hove Albion to win @ 10/11 (bet365)

Selection: Brighton to beat Coventry City. Reasoning: Coventry are bottom of the Premier League without a win or a goal to their name after three rounds, while Brighton have already picked up four points and are averaging more than double Coventry's shots per game. The gulf in underlying numbers makes the Seagulls' odds-on price solid value for a banker-style selection.

4. Forty Years On each-way @ 5/2 (Paddy Power)

Selection: Forty Years On in the Group 3 Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster (15:05). Reasoning: The progressive four-year-old arrives on the back of an eye-catching win at Goodwood and is second favourite in the betting forecast behind Touleen (9/4). With The Prettiest Star (7/1) also in the field, this looks a competitive renewal, and each-way cover on a filly/mare with clear improvement still to come is the sensible route in.

5. Ironwill each-way @ 11/1 (Sky Bet)

Selection: Ironwill in the Betfred Mallard Handicap at Doncaster (15:40). Reasoning: Stuart Williams' gelding has been the model of consistency all season, taking a race at the July Festival and going close in two subsequent starts at Goodwood. Still open to further improvement, the each-way price looks generous in a stayers' handicap that always throws up a big-priced player.

Player news & injury updates

Doku doubt for the derby

Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku missed last weekend's win over Coventry with a calf injury, and the Manchester derby has been pencilled in as a possible return date, though Pep Guardiola is expected to assess him closely before committing him from the start.

O'Reilly injured in the warm-up

City academy graduate Nico O'Reilly was named in the starting line-up against Coventry but suffered a back injury during the warm-up, handing deadline-day signing Enzo Fernández his club debut in his place — a timely audition ahead of the derby.

Goretzka setback at Villa

Aston Villa's free-transfer signing Leon Goretzka has suffered an injury setback shortly after arriving at the club and will now miss the upcoming international break, a blow to Unai Emery's midfield options.

Newcastle goalkeeper concern

Newcastle United could be without goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen for their midweek Carabao Cup tie against Millwall after he picked up an ankle injury in training, with the club assessing the extent of the issue.

Spurs' goal drought

Tottenham's goalless draw with Everton means Thomas Frank's side have failed to find the net in their opening four league games of the season for the first time in the club's history — a statistic likely to increase scrutiny on the manager's attacking options before the international break.
